The Brentwood Karting Race League is the crowning jewel at our Brentwood Karting facility. Talented young drivers compete in the league over a series of weeks before fighting it out in the end of season All Star Cup.
Drivers interested in joining the league must hit a qualifying lap time to be invited to join. If you think that you’re good enough then just ask at reception and one of our instructors will keep an eye when you’re on track to see if they think you have what it takes to compete in the league.
One of the star graduates of the league is Ben Green who is now putting together a promising career in motorsport. After competing in the Ginetta Junior for the privately owned Super Green Racing team, Ben has stepped up into the Ginetta G4 Supercup for 2016 and has been an instant success, getting on the overall podium in just his second meeting!
“It was a great race really. There was a lot of changing positions, it wasn’t just the four overtakes; there were more like 7 or 8 overtakes. I would take someone then they’d get me back at the next corner. It was a lot of tussling for positions rather than straight forward overtakes.”
Ben was quick to heap praise on the Brentwood Karting Race League and what it taught him in the very early stages of his career.
“You get used to the highs and the lows when you race in the Brentwood Karting Race League. Things change each week and obviously sometimes you do well, sometimes you don’t. It teaches you to accept that some days aren’t as good as others.”
“It definitely prepares you for racing. I think that’s represented as there are so many good drivers out there now who have all raced in the league and have moved on to greater things so I think that’s a really good indicator as to how good the race league is.”
“It teaches the basics of how to learn things. A normal instructor will just show you what a racing line is but a good instructor, like the guys over at Brentwood, will show you how to learn the fastest way around a track, which means you can apply that skill to any track you go to.”
“Brentwood really gives you a good base to move forward with your racing career. Another thing is the offensive and defensive driving; knowing when to go on the attack and when to not defend too much as you’re going to lose time.”
With talk then changing back to his aims for the season, Ben seemed determined for more success in the very near future.
“I’m definitely looking for [more] podiums. Wins might come later in the year but we’re definitely targeting podiums. To get third in my second meeting after missing a race at Brands and failing to finish one, to get a podium in effectively my fourth race I think is pretty amazing.”
“I think I’ve got a lot of potential, that seems to be what people are saying, so the aim for this year is podiums and then next year the championship.”
