The Lakeside Karting circuit has been on the receiving end of a huge upgrade project over recent months and finally it is ready to go!
Those who kart with us on a more regular basis will have noticed the lighting gantries that have been appearing around the track, and gantries similar to these feature at Grand Prix circuits around the globe, letting drivers like Fernando Alonso and Max Verstappen know if there is a hazard that they need to be aware of.
The Group Operations Director of Lakeside and Brentwood Karting, Steve Wagstaff, has been full of praise for the new lighting system, saying, “We’re all super-excited about the new lights system! It’s been a long time coming, but the end product has definitely been worth the wait.”
“It was designed and manufactured in-house – and not been without its problems – but this has meant we were able to make it bespoke to us.”
“Scott (Law, Circuit Manager) has done a fantastic job of making our visualisation a reality, and, in truth, it’s even better than expected. We needed a system that was simple to operate and simple to understand.”
“Obviously, the main improvement is safety – safety for the drivers and safety for the staff. We’ve always had circuit safety at the top of our list of priorities, but this has really taken us to the next level. And then there’s the visual element – it certainly wouldn’t look out of place at a Formula 1 circuit!”
While our marshals will continue to use some flags to ensure driver safety, the lights will give drivers an added awareness that should drastically reduce the number of black flags handed out for speeding under yellow flag conditions.
This awareness will mean that the track will be cleared quicker and you will be able to continue to enjoy your racing experience all the sooner.
At Lakeside Karting we strive to provide drivers with the best racing experience available and to make your experience as close as possible to stepping into the world of professional racing. As I say, Grand Prix tracks have these features, so why shouldn’t you?
To look at, the gantries appear very futuristic and attractive. The red, yellow and green lights are housed in a beautifully sculptured white pod that is held over the centre of the circuit. This puts them right in your line of vision without having to even look up from the wheel.
With ‘Arrive & Drive’ karting from just £25, come and take a look at the lights for yourself and get closer than ever to the world of professional motorsport!
