The Brentwood Karting Cadet Academy is a competitive championship for up-and-coming modern day Michael Schumachers. The Academy is exclusively for drivers aged between 8 – 16 and has already produced many drivers who have advanced into the world of competitive Motorsport, with some of them being very successful, winning many championships not just in Britain, but across Europe. The Brentwood Academy is proven to be a very successful starting point for many drivers; visit Luciano Bacheta’s website, a former member of the Brentwood Academy and up-and-coming British driver currently breaking records and winning championships throughout Europe. The current academy members have also had the chance to race against their idols, noticeably Top Gear’s Stig (Perry McCarthy).

The Cadet Academy racing season consists of 12 weeks of competitive racing. Throughout this time drivers will race head-to-head against one another. Each week will see the drivers take part in a practice session (around 10 minutes) followed by three 10 minute races for each driver. Grid positions for each race will be decided in the fairest possible way ensuring all drivers will have to work as hard as each other to secure the all-important race victory. Only after the 12 long weeks can we crown the Brentwood Cadet Academy Champion. * Only 10 of the 12 weeks will count towards the championship title. Drivers will be competing in karts designed exclusively for our 850 meter outdoor track. The entire fleet of karts are serviced weekly restricted or derestricted to ensure all karts are as equal as possible. There are two different race categories Cadets and Seniors, the winning drivers from each category will be presented with a large trophies to show off their achievement. Driver positions are updated weekly on the Brentwood Karting website along with a weekly race report and weekly video which can be seen on YouTube perfect for those budding Hamiltons.

Why Brentwood?:
The Brentwood Karting Cadet Academy is a great starting point for many drivers, but why chose Brentwood. Firstly practice makes perfect and with all drivers on track for at least 40 minutes a week Brentwood offers much more track time compared to its rivals, Buckmore is around 25 minutes a month. After the academy many academy drivers hit the track for another 30 minutes in Arrive and Drive practice, 30 minutes track time for the academy members is £20 a huge discount compaired to other karting tracks in the southeast! The championship tables can been seen on the internet like most academies, however Brentwood also offers Race Videos, Chat forums, Facebook sites, YouTube pages, Race Reports and Published kart laptimes.

Parents are also valuable members of the academy as questionnaires are handed out to see the parent’s views on the championships. As well as the FREE membership all academy drivers will also be told of special offers before any other customers including half price vouchers! Why Brentwood?

Points system.
The championship points system is designed to make sure the entire championship season is as close as possible. The winning driver will receive 10 points with the runner up scoring 9 points and the third placed driver will score 8 points. Points will then fall 7,6,5,4,3,2,1. The driver who records the days fastest for each category will also score a further 2 points meaning the maximum amount of points a single driver can score in a week is 32 points. Drivers can lose points depending on their driving, if a driver breaks the rules their points total suffers!

Driver Appraisals:
The Brentwood Karting Cadet Academy is possibly the only academy in the country that offers all drivers an appraisal programme to keep check on how well the drivers are progressing in the championship. Throughout the championship season all drivers will be assessed on a weekly basics and all drivers will have an appraisal where the race director will meet with the drivers individually to let the drivers know where he thinks the driver can improve, what the driver need to focus on and advise the drivers how they can progress up the championship table. Towards the end of the season the race director will once again meet with all the drivers individually to asses their performances and see if the driver reached the targets set to them in there original appraisal.

Tuition:
All Academy drivers have the chance to improve their skills and advance up the championship table with Brentwood Karting’s impressive 1-2-1 tuition where drivers can hit the track with a race tutor who will help them improve on what ever skills a driver believes he needs improving on. Assessments are also available. Assessments are great, the driver can hit the track and be watched by the race director, after the drivers session the driver can chat with the race director and hear the race directors views on how to improve their laptimes, Don’t forget academy members receive discounts on both 1-2-2 training and on assessments.

Driver Warning’s
Here at Brentwood we pride ourselves on safety and ensuring all rules are followed therefore a warning system has been introduced for the academy.

Contact Warning: If a driver makes contact with a competitor’s kart which the race director believes could have been avoided the driver will receive a contact warning and will have a point deducted from his race score for each contact warning he receives.

Kerbing: If a driver abuses the kerbs to gain an advantage, cuts a corner or has all four wheels over the white lines defining the circuit edge he will receive a kerbing warning, if a driver again abuses the kerbs he will have a point deducted from his race score and will continue to lose points if he continues the abuse the kerbs.

A.B.C Warning Board: The A.C.B board has been introduced to avoid the use of a black flag. The A.B.C board means Advantage By Contact, a driver will receive the  A.B.C board if he/she gains a position by contact. The driver at fault will also be given a number of positions that he/she will have to allow to pass them, therefore if a driver hits another driver and gains a position he/she will have to allow the driver he/she hit back past handing back the advantage he/she took. * Drivers will not lose any points for receiving an A.B.C warning.

Black Flag: If a driver receives a black flag he/she will have to return to the pitlane. The black flag usually means he/she has repeatedly broken the rules or is driving dangerously black flag’s usually result in a disqualification. If a driver overtakes while a yellow flag is being waved he/she will be black flagged given a warning and released back in to the action. Black flag’s will result in 3 points being deducted from their race score.

Fair Play Championship:
As well as the senior and cadet championship there is also a fairplay championship. The fairplay championship will record the amount of points a driver loses throughout the season, the drivers who don’t lose as many points will find themselves topping the championship and the winning driver will be crowned the Fariplay Champion.
