Savior Of the Universe
Oliver Flashman’s AllStar Desire.
Sunday morning at Brentwood Karting and we’re greeted to the sound of the Star Wars TIE Fighters! Brentwood’s new SODI Karts, to me anyway, sound is reminiscent of a Star Wars battle scene as gas replaces the petrol at Brentwood for the 270cc racer karts.
Let’s see who can “Use The Force!”
Jack Williamson secures pole position with TIE Fighter one; Jack is chasing a hat-trick of consecutive AllStar Cup victories and after a solid performance in the heats he’s sitting pretty at the head of the field. “The force is strong with one” I’ll stop with the Star Wars analogies now.
Ellis Sandford joins Jack on the front row, an absolutely fantastic 12 week season topped off with an equally impressive performance in the heats and Ellis takes 2nd on the grid. Peter “The Dark” Knight “Rises” starts from 3rd, sharing the 2nd row of the grid with the 2nd of the Williamsons brother Louis.
Formation flying from all drivers as the race started with a rolling start, Green Lights!
Jack Williamson uses his position to its best potential and keeps the lead, Peter Knight stomps over Ellis’ parade instantly claiming 2nd.
Brentwood’s new Senior Champion wasn’t having his best AllStar Cup after a not so good start he’s battling with Rishi Gupta and outgoing Cadet Champ Joshua Pattrick as the trio fight for the right not to be last.
“I’m gonna hit the highway like a battering ram On a silver black phantom bike” Basically, Kye was absolutely flying after gaining his place in the A final after a promotion from the B final Kye had swapped 11th place for 5th in just a few laps, he and the rapid Gus Usakovs are now snapping on Ellis Sandford’s exhaust pipe.
Rising Star William Murphy proves his new title is worthwhile after, a great job to get into the A final and he’s now looking to pass Louis.
Back to the battle at the front, and oh my, what a battle we had!
Jack Williamson had some serious company in the shape of the rapid Kye Kinch, after scraping into the A final Kye blitz through the field like a sharp knife through cake! (cake tastes better then butter) joining Kye and Jack at the head of the field was Oliver Flashman, these three drivers were the stars of the day.
My eyes begin to explore the viewing area when the race nears its end and with such a hotly contested race there were three people in particular…
I found Grant Flashman, surprising he wasn’t giving anyone with a pulse a tour of his Essex hairdressers Mercedes, “It’s a soft-top don’t you know!!”
Grant was found clinging onto the fence railing like Kate Winslet’s “Rose” from The Titanic,
“Go On Olli, that’s it,, No, not like that, Yes, Go On!” I’m sure Oli could hear his dad (He couldn’t) and found the information very helpful mid race (He didn’t) I could see the crowd around Kate Winslet slowly getting smaller and smaller as Kate got louder and louder and the race neared it’s end.
There’s good old Kate found, next up…
“Miss Smoke Signals” Lucy Williamson, well, she wasn’t smoking, (I have photographic evidence) One hand on her phone a few inches from her face with the other hand flapping in an attempt to instruct Jack to go faster, Nan and granddad Williamson were also present and involved in providing the “required” signals for Louis Williamson.
Dean Kinch was next up, In a Galaxy far, far away from now arch rival Lucy Williamson again doing his best pigeon impersonation, sat upright on the fence again doing his best Aretha Franklin arm movements, like Oli, I’m sure Kye’s race benefited fully from Dean involvement.
All eyes moved from the viewing area to the awesome battle on circuit.
Flash!! Jack’s lead was gone!
Oliver took full control passing Jack and defending hard as both Jack and Kye sleeked retribution.
Oliver’s battle to the front wasn’t an easy one but he wasn’t prepared to let it go without a fight.
Jack looked to pass the defensive Oliver at Swimming Pool Bend but in doing so gave Kye a Kye sized gap and 2nd was gone, we now had a 5 way battle for the lead. #Tense
Kye’s 2nd place was fragile and Jack came in like a battering-ram, Jack regained 2nd and nearly stole Oliver’s 1st in the process.
“Young man, there’s no need to feel down, I said, young man, pick yourself off the ground”
Dean’s very own theme tune started as he engaged “Typical Karting Expert Dad” mode flapping like a deranged seagull on Southend Sea Front much to my own amusement.
It worked, Kye again toppled Jack to steal 2nd place!
Que the music!
We have Kate Winslet still holding firm and now I hear the distant familiar sounds of Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” you know the instrumental beginning at the start of the song as Oliver’s lead extended to a huge 4 seconds. As Darth Vader once said, “Don’t Underestimate the Force” (I promise, that’s it.)
Chequered flag held aloft!
Oliver Flashman AllStar Cup Champion!
A sterling performance from “The Flash” is rewarded with his first hard fought AllStar cup victory.
Kye’s performance is one to remember, finishing 2nd from starting 11th in the B final, a fantastic drive.
You can never count out Jack Williamson, he didn’t get his hatrick this time but 3rd place and highest Cadet driver is Jack reward after yet another impressive drive.
And finally a word for Gus, 4th place across the line after a reasonably quite but determined drive.
