Jack joins the Elite!
A Final Report
Sunday morning, we’ve all had our warm up, our “Starters” a royal wedding and a bunch or overpaid Nancy’s kicking a bag of air in something called “The FA Cup” Now it’s time for the main event.
The AllStar Cup!
A 6am alarm and an inbox full of emails titled “Karts” or “Restrictors” it can only be week 13.
Green flag held aloft, it’s Kye who leads the pack for the formation lap after two great results in the heats. Joshua Pattrick joins Kye at the front of the grid with Jack Williamson heading the 2nd row with Rishi Gupta.
Ready….. Red lights out and the pack heads towards Range Corner for the first time
Joshua Pattrick is the first casualty, the outside line is never the best starting point and soon Joshua is hustled down the order to 7th!
Not to let the cat out the bag, we did have a driver with us who shouldn’t have been, “Mum’s the word” isn’t that right, Grant Flashman? So, we’ll call the driver, Banner, Bruce Banner!
Bruce Banner converted 9th into 4th after lap 1 with a first lap even the Incredible Hulk would be pleased with.
It didn’t take long for the first fireworks of the A final as Iaroslav tries to bite off way more than he can chew resulting in now spending the rest of the race fighting for the scraps at the back.
Heat rises and so does Lucy Dean’s smoke signals! She’s back….. Lucy ignites cigarette number 74, it’s not just her that’s smoking, so is Jack! Jack Williamson huffs and puffs nearly as much as mother as he finds the gap and passes Kye for the lead, we now have a three horse race for the title, race leader Jack, 2nd placed Kye and Bruce “Shouldn’t he be at home” Banner.
Jake Taplin and Stef Christforou seem intent on being Brentwood’s answer to the Chuckle Brothers, Too Me, Too You, Too Me, Too You! swapping positions lap after lap.
Matthew Robinson’s first time in a senior kart is a good one after making it into the AllStar Cup A final, he and Joshua Pattrick are having their own private race in 9th and 10th.
I’m rattling on here, 61 drivers attended the AllStar Cup so making it into the A final it a huge achievement but the battle worth watching was the three drivers in their very own league.
Jack’s lead didn’t last as long as he would have liked, Kye and Bruce slapped Jack back down to 3rd,
Kye retakes the lead just as dad Dean climbs the fence..cue the music…. Young Man, there’s a place you can go, It’s always fun to stay at the YMCA..
Dean’s hand signals look very familiar and wearing his horrendous glasses does make him fit well as the Policeman from the 1970’s band “The Village People”…..
there’s a green storms brewing and Bruce makes his move at Swimming Pool Bend, Contact, both run wide and Jack slips back through! The debate start as to if Bruce’s move was an ABC but before action can be called Kye slips back past and into 2nd position.
Operation “Defensive Maserclass” Jack needs to stand the heat or get out the kitchen, he’s lead is looking increasing fragile as double Senior Champion Kye Kinch and Bruce Banner both take in turns chomping at Jack’s exhaust pipe.
There’s no rest for the top three as all cross the line within half a second and with laptimes within a tenth.
Rishi and Stef have the best seats in the house, best, yet distance as they both fight for “Best Of The Rest” in a distant 4th and 5th position.
The noise from the viewing area increases, the lead battle is at it tightest and Lucy is running out of fingers to put fags in….. “FINAL LAP” its battle of the meerkats as both Mike (Stef’s dad) Dean (Kye’s dad) and some other guy all start climbing the fences , who can be the tallest! Even Scot (Jack’s dad) is auditioning for the Village People….
Ermm, Back to the track, Here we go!
Jack’s just 35 seconds from an achievement few have achieved but its Bruce who looks faster and Kye is still there waiting to pounce.
Jack holds his breath Bruce makes his move but that’s it! The chequered flag is flying and its Jack’s day. Our Double AllStar Cup Champion!
What a final!
Close, tough but fair racing with a deserving winner. Bruce collects an awesome 2nd with an equally impressive 3rd for Kye Kinch, Awesome driving from our podium finishes.
Driver Of The Day: OLIVER FLASHMAN (Don’t tell mum)
