We have our very own #TameRacingDriver Ben Green joining us on Sunday for the Brentwood Karting Race League for round one of the Summer Championship.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, not only will Ben be here on Sunday, he’ll be competing in the races.
We thought we would give you all a little insight into his weekend when Ben was racing in the British GT Championship at Snetterton Circuit, take a look below to see how his weekend went, we’re looking forward to see you this Sunday Ben for a much more important race!
I arrived at Snetterton very positive after a strong opening round at Oulton Park and a two day test at Snetterton.
Saturday started with two practice sessions, I spent the sessions providing feedback to the team in order to get the car setup as best as possible for the afternoons qualifying sessions, I was pleased with my performance and was looking forward to qualifying. I worked closely with Dominic to make some small adjustments so he can improve as a driver.
During my qualifying session I managed to secure 9th on the grid. I was really pleased with my performance and felt I got the full potential from the car, with the current setup. After qualifying I sat with the team to discuss a way to get more from the car as we feel there is more performance potential to come as we are struggling with traction from the slow corners compared to other cars on the grid.
Like Oulton Park, Sunday consisted of 2 one hour races. Dominic, my team mate started race 1, he made a great start and was fighting for a top 4 position when he made a small mistake and hit the Lamborghini, this meant that we would need to serve a 10 second stop go penalty knocking us to the back of the pack.
I took the wheel for the second half of the race and spent my stint catching back up and making my way through the GT4 cars, I had a great stint with some impressive lap times and a very consistent run which resulted in 9th place at the chequered flag, as towards the end of the race I was able to overtake some of my competitors.
I started race 2 and like Oulton Park I made a great start and managed to pass Jonny Adam in the Aston Martin at Turn 1 and then pressured Rob Bell in the Mclaren for the first 2 laps of the race. I kept with Rob Bell but we were still struggling with the car setup, especially with traction out of the slow corners and this resulted in me struggling to make an overtaking attempt on the Mclaren as I couldn’t keep with Rob out of the hairpins. I handed the car over to Dominic who drove very well, we were unfortunately passed by two cars while we were in the pit lane but Dominic managed to bring the car back in a strong 7th position.
Overall I was really pleased with my own performance at Snetterton, I had one of my best weekends and was very consistent throughout. I, along with the team, believe there is much more time to find with the car and am confident we can unlock more of it’s full potential for the next race at Silverstone.
I would again like to thank all my sponsors, without their support I wouldn’t be able to chase my dreams.
